You're Toast!

You’re Toast! is a project developed by Sofia Dahlgren, Kristoffer Horgen, and Johan Roth. This mobile game offers a casual experience with physics-based gameplay, drawing its inspiration from classic arcade games and early mobile games. The game’s simplicity and focus on engaging mechanics are reminiscent of the straightforward yet challenging games of the early 90’s, making it both accessible and addictive for players of all ages.

The objective of the game is to achieve the highest possible score by skillfully navigating various obstacles and mastering the physics-based controls. Players will find themselves constantly pushing to improve their performance, striving to top the leaderboard in this playful yet competitive setting.

Market Validation

The market for mobile games is growing. Mobile gaming has surpassed console and PC-gaming, now claiming 57% of the market, and there is still no sign of decline in growth. On the contrary, the coming decade will most probably only see an increase in mobile gaming, this according to GlobalData.

Business Model

We decided to go with a Freemium model as our business strategy, which allows users to enjoy the core gameplay for free.
We’ve also incorporated in-app purchases, but these are limited to purely cosmetic items, like unique color modifications and skins for your in-game toaster. These items do not provide any competitive advantage or impact gameplay in any way, which aligns with our commitment to keeping the game free from any pay-to-win (P2W) elements.

UX-methods and process

We’ve used several methods to validate our startup, including the Lean Canvas, Business Model Canvas (BMC 2), SWOT analysis, and Customer Journey mapping. Alongside these approaches, we also conducted research into the mobile gaming industry to gain deeper insights.

Design Process

The game’s layout and gameplay are crafted with a minimalist approach, where everything unnecessary has been removed to avoid impacting the player experience.

Simplicity and ease of use are central to the design, making the game accessible to everyone, while also allowing players room for personal progression. Our aim is for the game to be easy to pick up, yet challenging to master—an approach that enhances the game’s lifespan and replay value.

To further extend the game’s longevity, we’ve included RPG elements. Players advance through a leveling system based on experience points (EXP), and as they level up, they unlock new toasters and gain access to additional customization options, like colors and materials. These customization choices are purely aesthetic, ensuring that gameplay remains fair and balanced for all players.
